Introduction
A form of a bony bump on the joint of the big toe. According
to doctors, the cause is uncertain, but when it occurs the bones on the big toe
move out of place. When this happens, the big toe is pulled towards the joint
base of smaller toes (meaning it tends to bend towards the smaller toes). This affects
the ability to walk, and excise.
According to Wikipedia, a bunion, also called or known as hallux valgus, is a deformity of the joint
connecting the big toe to the foot... They further say that the big toe often
bends towards the other toes and the joint becomes red and painful.
The three main causes of Bunion:
Below I will list the 3 main causes that may lead to bunion
and make you have a problem in walking and even doing daily simple things at
home. These 3 causes were mentioned by Dr. Eric Berg DC
while addressing the same issue of a bunion.
1. Shoes
The shoes that we wear, more especially shoes that do not
fit us, or the shoes are narrow can lead us to the cause of Bunion or the bending
of the big toes towards the smaller toes. This kind of shoe can maybe be
fashion shoes like high heels with a narrow nose.
According to ABC
and their experts,
there is uncertainty over the cause of bunions, says Perth podiatrist Andrew
Schox, but the evidence suggests high heels are not the real culprit. They again
show that, If however, you are prone to bunions, wearing high heels; especially
if they are tight around the toes — won't help.
"Wearing high heels forces the weight of your body onto
the ball of your foot, "If you are wearing narrow shoes, this force then
compacts your toes into a small space, which may encourage bunions to form and
may exacerbate problems associated with existing bunions." Dr
Schox says in ABC.
Tip: When buying shoes make sure that all your toes
fit well in that shoe. They should be enough space in the shoes for the comfort
of your toes – Dr.

2. Having Flat Feet
Flat feet shift weight into big toes. "Bunions are
likely to occur if you have flat feet, due to the existing issues that
pronation can cause in the structure of the foot. Proper alignment of the toes
when walking can prevent a bunion from getting bigger", said ConeHealth.

bunions – ConeHealth
3. Ankle Mobility Issues
This could be from an injury that has affected an ankle. Also,
this could be for many reasons like overtraining that affects your ankle. Looking
at Footankledc, they show
that athletes may be at a higher risk for bunion development. The reason is
the forces exerted on their feet during their sport. Athletes are often asked
to twist, turn, jump and sprint during practice and games, and this will
challenge different areas of their feet, Footankledc
says. Again, they say that, if your toe joints are repeatedly
stressed, especially if your shoes aren’t providing ample support, it can all
lead to quicker wear on the joint and eventual bunion development.
Finally,
Footankledc shows that bunions can progress more quickly in
athletes that refuse to take time away from the game to get treatment. Athletes
are often competitive by nature, and they may put short-term team goals ahead
of their long-term health. This can mean that by the time treatment is sought,
the bunion is more severe and harder to treat - Footankledc
Tip: Put flexibility in the back of the ankle – Dr. Eric Berg DC
How to Treat Bunion or Prevention for Bunion
1. Changing shoes.
If you have shoes that do not fit correctly you must have
shoes that will fit your toes and give them enough space. This also involves
having socks that will give your toes separation (Like the socks that accommodate
toe by toe). Give your foot a roomy foot.
2. Use a silicone toe spreader.
This is a simple device created to put on the toe and this
device will help spread the toes. It keeps the necessary separation for the
toes and prevents bunion. Again, this device gives your toes comfort and
prevents the overlapping of the toes.
3. Exercise.
I will only list 3 exercises. You can get the 10 exercises
for bunion relief and prevention by visiting HealthLine. The below exercise is or is according to HealthLine.
- Toe points and curls.
This work on the toes and is flexing the muscles under the feet. HealthLine suggest that, you sit on a surface with your feet about 6 inches away from the floor. Point and curl your toes slowly. Do this for 20 reps for 2 to 3 sets.
- Toe spread-outs.
Sit and while sitting, place your foot on the floor. Then, with your heel fixed to the ground, lift and spread your toes. Repeat this exercise 10 to 20 times on each foot, Say HealthLine.
- Toe circles.
This will mobilize the toe joints and will help to reduce stiffness. Sit and while sitting on a chair, lean over and grip your big toe. Begin circling the toe clockwise, 20 times. Stop and reverse the direction for another 20 circles. Complete 2 to 3 sets on each toe.
Conclusion
In this article, we have introduced you to the meaning of Bunion
and how to form and showed that this is a form of big toe bending and overlapping
with the other small toes. Again, we have
provided the three possible causes that they can cause Bunion with some tips
from prominent doctors and sites. Remember their causes are uncertain. As we couldn’t
leave this article without listing the Treatments of Bunion or Prevention for
Bunion, we went to the quest for them and are listed above. The treatment and
or prevention were to change shoes, use a silicone toe spreader, and or follow
a few exercises.
