Brandon Petersen: “We Have Two More Cup Finals Left” As Chiefs Push for Top 8 Finish
Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Brandon Petersen is feeling confident and motivated after helping the team lift the 2025 Nedbank Cup. Chiefs beat Orlando Pirates 2-1 at Moses Mabhida Stadium, ending their 10-year trophy drought.
Petersen had not played a single match for Chiefs in 2025 until this final. Coach Nasreddine Nabi made a bold choice, leaving out Bruce Bvuma and putting Petersen in goal — and it worked!
“We have two more cup finals left. We want to finish this season on a high,” Petersen told SABC Sport after the big win.
Chiefs Still Fighting for MTN8 Spot
Chiefs are not done yet. They have two important Premiership games left:
- 🏟️ Sekhukhune United on Saturday, 18 May at Peter Mokaba Stadium
- 🏟️ Polokwane City on Friday, 24 May
Chiefs are currently ninth on the log with 30 points — the same as Chippa United, but lower on goal difference. They sit just above Marumo Gallants, also on 30 points. Richards Bay and Magesi FC are close behind with 29 points.
Win and You're In
If Chiefs win both remaining matches, they are likely to finish in the top 8, which would:
- Secure a place in next season’s MTN8 tournament
- Add to the success of winning the Nedbank Cup
- Guarantee qualification for the CAF Confederation Cup
Chiefs fans are hopeful Petersen stays in goal and helps finish the season in style.
