Pitso Mosimane’s Fallout With Sundowns Explained
Reports this week suggest that Mamelodi Sundowns and their former head coach Pitso Mosimane are in talks to fix their broken relationship. This news has sparked strong debate among football fans, with some believing a reunion could happen soon.
Sundowns are currently under pressure in the Betway Premiership, as they trail Orlando Pirates on the league table. This has increased speculation about the future of current coach Miguel Cardoso.
However, behind the reunion rumours lies a serious legal dispute that has kept Mosimane and Sundowns apart for years.
How the Legal Battle Started
The conflict began in 2020, when Pitso Mosimane signed a new contract with Sundowns. His agency, MT Sports, led by his wife Moira Tlhagale, was paid R8.6 million as commission for arranging the deal.
Just four months later, Mosimane resigned and joined Egyptian giants Al Ahly. Sundowns were unhappy and believed the coach left before completing his contract.
As a result, the club demanded the repayment of the agent fees and took Mosimane and MT Sports to court.
Court Ruling and Appeal
Earlier this year, the South Gauteng High Court ruled in favour of Sundowns. The court ordered Mosimane and MT Sports to pay back R7.9 million, plus 7% interest, dating back to May 2021.
MT Sports immediately appealed the ruling, and the appeal hearing is expected to take place next week.
Why Reunion Talks Are Happening Now
Despite the legal case still ongoing, reports say talks between Sundowns and Mosimane have been positive and respectful. Both sides appear willing to move forward for the good of the club.
Mosimane remains Sundowns’ most successful coach, having led the club to multiple league titles and continental success. With pressure growing on the current technical team, a reunion is now being discussed seriously.
What Happens Next?
While the court case continues, there is a growing feeling that both sides want peace. Whether this leads to Mosimane returning to the Sundowns bench remains to be seen.
One thing is clear: the door that once seemed firmly shut may now be slowly opening again.
