Oupa Manyisa, the former midfielder for Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns, has bid farewell to Platinum City Rovers, seeking a new venture at La Masia.
Having joined Rovers at the commencement of the 2021/22
season, Manyisa has officially ended his association with the club and is
currently without a contract.
The midfielder appears poised to rejoin forces with his
former Rovers coach, Ashwin Sutton, who has taken the helm as the new head
coach.
Interestingly, both Manyisa and Sutton arrived at Rovers
simultaneously, coinciding with the team's promotion to the Motsepe Foundation
Championship at the close of the 2020/21 season.
According to sources from FARPost, Sutton's arrival at the
club in July 2021, accompanied by Manyisa, hints at the coach's intention to
have the midfielder on board. Manyisa commenced training with the team earlier
this week.
Despite expressing no desire to return to the Premier Soccer
League (PSL), Manyisa remains confident in his ability to continue playing in
the lower tier for a few more years. His tenure with City Rovers spanned over
18 months, during which he shared thoughts with FARPost, stating, "I still
feel strong, and I think I can still go on for a few more years."
With a notable career spanning six seasons at Pirates and a
subsequent move to Sundowns, Manyisa's experience is highly regarded.
Recognized as a leader in the dressing room by the Motsepe Foundation side, he
provided constant encouragement to teammates.
La Masia, in their debut season in the second tier, eyes
Manyisa's expertise to bolster their squad. Positioned 15th on the Motsepe
Foundation Championship table with four wins, two draws, and nine losses in 15
matches, the team has undergone technical changes due to their performance.
The departure of Manyisa from Platinum City Rovers is a
notable development, potentially heralding a new chapter for the seasoned
midfielder at La Masia.
